Questions
What's the difference between 3MF and STL?
3MF is a zip with an XML model that knows its units and can hold several objects, colours and print settings. STL is just triangles, without units. Most slicers read both; some older tools, CNC and CAD programs only take STL.
Are print settings and colours kept?
No: STL holds only the shape. All objects on the 3MF's plate are combined into one STL, in the places they sit.
Can I convert STL to 3MF?
Yes: drop an STL and press Download 3MF. The 3MF records millimetres, so the slicer won't ask about the scale.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The model is read and converted in your browser; it never leaves your computer, so private or client parts stay private.
How big a file can it open?
Files up to about 250 MB, several million triangles, in a desktop browser. Phones manage smaller files.
